Ok, I’m not gonna lie. When the leaves start turning fiery red and gold, and the air gets crisp and cool, the thing I most look forward to is my fall reading list.
If you also love reading, buckle up. This season, there are so many must-have books to add to your fall reading list, it’s hard to keep track!
Whether you love reading complex and historical novels, chick-lit, YA, thrillers, memoirs, self-help or non-fiction books, this fall reading list has a bit of everything.
So are you ready to check out the most anticipated books for fall?

The Must-Have Books For Your Fall Reading List
I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention some of the pretty epic books coming out this fall, like “The Testaments” by Margaret Atwood and “The Water Dancer” by Ta Nehisi Coates.
But since these books are receiving so much buzz everywhere (and rightly so!), I’m going to focus on some of the other anticipated titles that were either just released or will be on bookshelves soon.
Olive, Again: A Novel by Elizabeth Strout
I was completely drawn into the world and characters of Olive Kitteredge, so I can’t wait to read this new novel, which takes us deeper into the life of Olive and all of the characters that live in her quaint town in Maine.
Life Undercover: Coming of Age in the CIA
In my dreams, I’ve often wondered what it would be like to be a bad-ass CIA agent. Now with this book, I can find out, all while sitting in the comfort of my living room.
Dear Girls: Intimate Tales, Untold Secrets & Advice for Living Your Best Life by Ali Wong
I’m already a huge fan of Ali Wong’s irreverent humor (and loved her in the Netflix film, Always Be My Maybe), so I can’t wait to dive into this book.
We Are the Weather by Jonathan Safran Foer
I am trying to make some big changes in my life right now to live a more sustainable life so this book is high on my list. I’m curious to see how a world-renowned novelist frames the issue of climate change and the suggestions he has to solve the crisis.
The Dutch House: A Novel by Ann Patchett
Ever since I got my hands on Bel Canto, I’m pretty much a fan of anything Ann Patchett writes so her latest novel will definitely be taking up residence on my nightstand.
Find Me by Andre Aciman
While I did not read the book, “Call Me By Your Name,” I loved the movie. So in a departure from what I usually do, I’m going to read the sequel to a book I didn’t read. Why? Because the characters in the film were so complex and interesting. I’m pretty sure this sequel will have the same passion and ethos that the film so beautifully portrayed.
Don’t You Forget About Me by Mhairi McFarlane
I’m a sucker for all rom-com, chick-lit and yes, even YA stories. I know these books are often trite and predictable, but they make me happy, every single time. So I’m all in!
Over the Top: A Raw Journey to Self-Love by Jonathan Van Ness
I’m a sucker for any book that tells a story about overcoming incredible odds. Add to that the fact that many of my colleagues in the TV work on Queer Eye and I love to support them, so yes, it’s a no brainer that this book is on my fall reading list!
What Happens in Paradise by Elin Hilderbrand
I’m always game to read a good thriller and this one has the makings of a page-turner. I’m pretty sure I’ll have a couple of late-night reading sessions because of this book!
Permanent Record by Mary H.K. Choi
I’m intrigued by the premise of this book because it seems to capture the zeitgeist of our culture. Social media has become such a double-edged sword, so I’m excited to see how this story plays out.
American Royals by Katharine McGee
I devoured this book as soon as I started reading it. American Royals is YA at its finest, with all the plot twists and turns you would expect. There is already talk of a sequel. But the biggest question on my mind is who will play Princess Beatrice on the big screen? Because I’m pretty sure a Hollywood studio will be optioning this book any day now!
Which Books Are You Adding to Your Fall Reading List?
I hope this post inspires you to dive into a good book (or three, or four!) this fall.
Bonus points if you get to curl up on the couch next to a toasty fire with a steaming cup of hot chocolate or tea, (or a hot toddy – no judgments here!) while you read.
