My Favorite Travel Accessories for Long-Haul Flights

My husband and I are finally hitting the road next week for a long, overdue vacation. Even better? We’re getting on our first long-haul flight in over a year and we’re headed overseas! (Yes, we are vaccinated, and yes, we will be taking many precautions to stay safe. I’ll write more about traveling during this stage of the pandemic in another post.)

But for now, since I’m so giddy about the idea of getting on a commercial flight again after a year and a half of not flying, I figured it would be a good time to share a round-up of my favorite, must-have travel accessories for long-haul flights. And obviously, there are some new things on my list (masks, I’m looking at you) because I have a feeling it’s going to be a while before we are out of this post-pandemic-but-not-really-over-this-whole-covid-thing-yet-world.

So, are you ready to check out my top travel accessories for long-haul flights?

Travel Accessories for Long-Haul Flights

1. Hydration is key for long-haul flights, so Nuun tablets are one of my favorite travel accessories.

2. I usually have a very strong stomach, but after getting ‘Bali belly’ when my husband and I went to Bali, I always travel with a charcoal supplement in case of an upset stomach. It’s great to have on hand for your flight and your trip.

3. I always pack a travel-size toothbrush and toothpaste in my carry-on for long-haul flights.

4. One of my favorite travel accessories for long-haul flights is a soft, oversized scarf. It can double as a blanket for when you want to sleep or just keep you warm if the cabin temperature is cold.

5. I love to read so much that I was the type of traveler who used to schlep 5 books with me on vacation. Thankfully, I can now store as many books as I want on my Kindle and not worry about adding extra weight to my baggage! (P.S. Take a peek at some of the life-changing books I’ve read.)

6. I always bring antibacterial wipes with me on the plane. I was doing this way before Covid-19 because studies have shown that the tray tables have more bacteria than the airplane bathrooms. (So gross!) Do yourself a favor and always wipe down your entire seat area, pandemic or no pandemic!

7. It’s important to keep your skin hydrated on long-haul flights because the recycled air on a plane has less humidity than our skin is used to. My go-to is Kiehl’s multi-corrective anti-aging cream.

8. One essential travel accessory for me is making sure I have chargers for all of my electronics. That includes my phone, laptop, Kindle, and Fitbit.

9. Traveling during the Pandemic is no joke. A great way to make sure you’re prepared is with a GuardMe kit which includes washable masks, filters, disinfecting wipes, latex gloves, and hand sanitizer.

10. Another smart way to protect yourself from germs and bacteria is to travel with a Seat Sacky. This is such a great product because it allows you to cover your entire airplane seat, plus it has pockets at the bottom where you can store your things – rather than using the seatback pockets.

11. Headphones are an essential travel accessory for long-haul flights. I prefer wireless ones like Airpod Pros so I can watch something on my phone and charge it at the same time.

12. My lips get so dry on planes so I always keep a couple of Burt’s Bees lip balm sticks with me.

13. The only way I can keep track of all of my chargers and headphones is with a tech accessory organizer.

14. I always bring my own water bottle on the plane and my favorite is my S’well bottle because it maintains the temperature of whatever liquid I put in it.

15. You might be asking, why do you need sunscreen on the plane? Well, the UV exposure is much higher when you’re at 30,000 feet, so SPF protection is a must. My favorite (on the plane and off) is Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen.

16. Last but not least, one of my top travel accessories for long-haul flights is a soft hairband so I can tie my hair back without damaging it.
