Spring Refresh: 5 Tips to Help You Prioritize Your Goals

I can’t believe we are already three months into the new year, and spring is upon us. Where have the last 3 months gone?!

Most of us set new intentions and resolutions at the beginning of the year. But with the onslaught of real life, we can quickly lose sight of these goals. It’s easy to get caught up in the minutia and forget about the bigger picture. But the transition of the seasons is a great opportunity for a spring refresh.

So this year, I invite you to take spring cleaning beyond your environment, physical health, and diet. Focus your spring refresh on your mind and spirit as well. Think about the bigger picture and the goals you’ve set to get there. What are your intentions and are they serving you? Are you still heading in the right direction or is it time to re-evaluate your path? And if you didn’t set any goals at the beginning of the year, now is a great time to start.

To help you with this spring refresh exercise, here are 5 tips to motivate you to prioritize your goals for the rest of the year. And the beauty of this exercise is that you can do it again at the start of summer and in the fall. The more time you take to consciously think about and choose your goals, the more willing you’ll be to do the work and achieve them.

1. What Is Your Big Picture?

The first thing you want to do is take a look at the bigger picture of your life. Where are you headed? Where do you see yourself in a year? In 5 years? Has that picture changed? It’s ok if you no longer want the job you thought you did or if your career is no longer serving you. Or maybe you’ve thought of moving somewhere else, and now you really want to make that dream a reality. Whatever it is you want, think about it clearly and in detail. The more you know about your big picture, the easier it will be to obtain. And if this hasn’t been a part of your practice with setting goals, now is a great time to start. I find that journaling really helps. Writing things down brings us clarity, so give it a try!

2. Review Your Goals and Pivot as Necessary

Now that you know what your big picture is, next, take a look at your goals. What will it take to get you from where you are today to where you see yourself in a year or 5 years? What are the goals you need to set for yourself to achieve your big picture? Again, I think it’s good to put pen to paper. Write them down and get clear on the work you need to do to make your dreams a reality.

Now that you’ve reviewed your goals, it’s time to assess whether or not they are still working. Are they still aligned with the bigger picture of what you want? If not, now is the time to pivot and make the necessary changes. It’s ok to let go of a goal if it’s no longer serving you. Sometimes it’s ‘out with the old and in with the new’ before we can manifest change. So don’t be afraid to clear out the mental clutter that might be holding you back. Let this spring refresh give you the space you need to allow room for the goals that do matter.

3. Break Down Your Goals into Actionable Steps

This is really the key. Once you have a roadmap, you need to take action. Break down your goals into actionable steps. Take as many as you need to, but remember that you don’t accomplish a goal by thinking about it, or even writing about it. You accomplish a goal by doing the work. Action leads to momentum and momentum leads to transformation. So buckle down, block out the time on your calendar and do the work. Your future self will thank you!

4. Change Your Attitude – The Power of Positive Thinking

One of the hardest things about setting goals is that our negativity and self-doubt get in the way. If we let our egos run amok, we would never get anything done! One way to take control of this is to think positively. I know this is easier said than done, but if you consciously work on reframing your life through a positive lens, you will reap the benefits. As the life coach, motivational speaker, and author, Marie Forleo says, attitude is contagious. If you have a positive attitude, it creates positive momentum in your life. 5. Enjoy the Process

You’ve all heard the phrase, ‘trust the process’ but I actually believe we should enjoy the process. This is the easy part! Once you’ve mapped out your goals to achieve your big picture, all you have to do is take actionable steps and enjoy the process. Of course, there will be challenges and days that you want to give up. But if you remember that all of this hard work is for you, so you can live your dream, the work becomes more manageable. It even becomes enjoyable.

The Magic is in you sign

Tap into the renewal of spring and the positive energy that this season brings to the world. Use this momentum to push forward. Do the work every day, remember the power of positive thinking and enjoy the journey. I promise if you do all of this, you will start to see extraordinary changes in your life, and your big picture will come into focus.
